In general, vehicles such as cars or motorcycles require a particle filtration efficiency of up to 10 microns to prevent foreign objects that may damage the mechanical components downstream of the intake system (air flow sensors, injectors, valves, and segments) from passing through. OEM air filters, made of paper, are primarily used to protect the engine. However, these filters have high resistance to air flow, which reduces inlet pressure and engine performance.

BMC air filters, on the other hand, provide significantly better air flow compared to conventional paper filters. Additionally, unlike paper filters that need to be replaced during maintenance, BMC air filters are reusable and have the same lifespan as the vehicle itself. Synthetic filters, produced by BMC exclusively for non-road applications, are another type of air filters available in the market.

The main difference between BMC's oiled cotton filters and filters made of synthetic material (such as plastic canvas) lies in their impurity trapping principle. Synthetic filters allow passage of particles smaller than the micro-filter material size. For instance, an 80 micron hole filter allows particles below that size to pass through, only stopping particles larger than the hole size (e.g., sand with a size of about 50 microns). On the other hand, cotton filters with a looser weave allow a larger flow of air and, combined with oil-treated layers, effectively stop impurities from 7 microns and above. This concept is currently the best solution for both filtration and performance improvement purposes.

BMC air filters have several advantages, including the ability to be washed and reused. They can be washed using water and suitable detergent, and after washing, they should be re-oiled with a thin coat of oil. Installing a BMC replacement filter is easy and straightforward: simply open the air-box and replace the OEM filter with BMC filter following the same installation method.

These filters are made of multi-layered cotton gauze soaked in low viscosity oil and covered with an epoxy coated alloy mesh to protect against petrol fumes and oxidization due to air humidity. BMC air filters are pre-oiled, eliminating the need for oiling before use, and can be washed and regenerated using the appropriate BMC regeneration kit.

Lastly, BMC performance air filters come with a 2-year warranty against any production defects, starting from the date of purchase by the end user from any authorized BMC products dealer.
