In general, vehicles like cars and motorcycles need air filters with a particle filtration efficiency that captures particles down to at least 10 microns. This is crucial to prevent foreign objects from damaging components downstream of the intake system, such as Air Flow Sensors, injectors, valves, and segments. OEM air filters, typically made of paper, serve the primary purpose of protecting the engine. However, these filters have high resistance to airflow, which can reduce inlet pressure and consequently impact engine performance.

BMC air filters, on the other hand, offer a significantly higher airflow compared to traditional paper filters. Unlike paper filters, which need to be replaced during maintenance, BMC air filters are reusable and can last for the life of the vehicle. Another alternative in the market is synthetic filters, which BMC has produced for non-road applications for years. The key difference between BMC’s oiled cotton filters and synthetic filters (such as those made from plastic canvas) lies in their impurity filtration mechanisms.

Synthetic filters have holes sized according to the micro-filter material they use. For instance, a filter with 80-micron holes will let through particles smaller than 80 microns, stopping only those larger. In contrast, BMC’s cotton filters feature larger mesh sizes that facilitate greater airflow. The cotton filters, combined with multiple layers treated with oil, effectively trap particles from 7 microns and up. This design offers superior filtration and performance.

Currently, BMC offers a dedicated air filter for the Porsche Macan S, GTS, and Turbo models. These filters are manufactured using a "Full Moulding" process, a technique developed by the BMC F1 R&D team. Designed to outperform OEM filters in terms of airflow, BMC air filters are made from a special cotton gauze soaked in low-viscosity oil, ensuring optimal air permeability. Additionally, BMC air filters are washable and reusable, making them an excellent choice for high-performance applications.
